It’s all fine and dandy me writing what I hope to be thought-provoking ‘shorts’, but really, the burning question anyone considering working with a coach will ask is, “What’s in it for me?” So over the next 10 days, stay tuned to my radio station ‘WII FM’ (“What’s In It For Me?”) and I’ll attempt to summarize the benefits and outcomes you might reasonably expect.
But let’s start with a stark summary, so that there are no misconceptions…
Employing a coach can be financially worth it if the creative views it as a strategic investment in their career growth, skill development, and network building. Their decision should be based on clear goals, a realistic assessment of potential returns, and whether the investment aligns with their current financial situation.
Which leads to the question of my fees; first-off, they’re fully tax deductible.
Secondly, I offer 3 tiers of career coaching: 1-to-1 coaching, group coaching and ‘Mastermind’ group sessions. My fees for 1-to-1 coaching are based on one day’s pay for your current grade, per month; comprising of fortnightly, live, one hour sessions together, and email support in-between.
If I haven’t demonstrated my worth after an agreed time, you shouldn’t continue paying me. There are no fixed-term contracts or lock-ins. We simply agree an initial period to evaluate the progress you’re making (usually 3 months – so 3 day’s pay) and then continually review the value on an ongoing basis.
Equally, if I feel you’re not benefitting, not engaging with the programme or not acting on our agreed recommendations, I too have the right to end our arrangement. Both of our time is precious.
I’d also say that it’s crucial to choose a coach with proven experience in the film and television industry, a wide understanding of how business works, and a track record of helping clients to accelerate their progress.
