Networking has a few connotations for those of us who work in this industry: we audio professionals for instance, will almost certainly bring to mind the audio over IP (AoIP) operating systems of Dante or Ravenna; fierce commercial rivals for, in essence, a similar method for delivering multichannel audio over a standard IT network.
Dante, an Australian tech company, stands for ‘Digital Audio Network Through Ethernet’; and it’s believed to be purely coincidental that it’s also the name of the Italian 13th century poet and author, best known solely by his first name ‘Dante’, (his last name being Alighieri), and most famous for his seminal work, ‘The Divine Comedy’.
Almost certainly less coincidental is that the rival German system Ravenna, (developed by Lawo, the mixing-console-and-more tech company), chose ‘Ravenna’ as a product name; it being the name of the town where Dante died.
Interesting as this is, the networking I’m highlighting instead is that a coach can help you by having strong industry connections; and they can be influential in introducing you to people who might help further your career. They might also have insider knowledge about opportunities that aren’t widely advertised.
